If you are also looking for help with day-to-day records, see our bookkeeping services. If you have staff, our payroll services keep PAYG withholding and superannuation in step with your BAS, and our cloud accounting setup can make each BAS faster and cleaner.

COMMON QUESTIONS

BAS and GST questions we hear from business owners

Do I need to register for GST?

Generally, yes, if your business has a GST turnover of $75,000 or more. Ride-sharing drivers must register regardless of turnover, and you can choose to register voluntarily below the threshold. Your circumstances matter, so check with us or the ATO before you decide.

Should I lodge BAS monthly or quarterly?

Most small businesses report quarterly. Monthly reporting can suit businesses with larger GST turnover or those who want closer visibility of cash flow. We can help you work out which fits your business.

When is my BAS due?

Quarterly BAS is generally due on the 28th of the month after the quarter ends, so the July to September quarter is due on 28 October. Monthly BAS is generally due on the 21st of the following month. Your exact due dates can differ, for example if you lodge through a registered agent, so check your ATO online services or ask us. Our Q1 BAS checklist covers what to have ready.

Can you prepare my BAS from Xero or QuickBooks?

Yes. We work in both, and we can also review and tidy your records before preparing your BAS.

Do you only work with businesses in Bowral?

No. Our office is in Bowral and we look after many clients locally, but we work online with businesses across Australia.

What do you need from me to get started?

Typically access to your accounting software or your bank and sales records, plus your previous BAS and ATO details. We confirm the exact list during your free consultation.
